Slow Stitching, Boro Style with Ruth Woods
Hand stitching has been used in many cultures such as the Japanese Boro, Indian Kantha, hand stitched quilts, mending clothes and many countries that have a history of hand-stitching traditions.
We are now connecting with these old traditions to create beautiful works. This contemporary twist on the old tradition is a beautiful way to create contemporary pieces of stitched work.
It's ideal for the beginner but also the more experienced embroider can create in a new style. You can create your unique piece using recycled fabric from your fabric stash or that piece of clothing you don’t want to get rid of. This will make your piece have its own story.
You can make a bag, a needle case, a book cover or your own art piece to hang on the wall.
You can also visible mend your jeans and add patches to your clothes. Materials are supplied but feel free to bring your own fabrics to incorporate.
